My first assignment from my professor
was to go to a small town in Yucatan:
Tixcocob and find out what they were
famous for.
They make hamacas.
Also I went to the local Grade School
and asked for permission to talk to the
Second Grade group.
Is when I did this drawing
In the 80's I had the opportunity to travel to
Yucatan, Mexico with a group of students
from the University of Wis.- Green Bay.
I was very excited to be back in Mexico
after few years of living in Wisconsin.
Vendors of fruit, oranges.
They peel the orange for you, with a
turn peeler, the peel comes out like a
spiral.
When you are traveling is normal to
wait for transportation.
Is when I do my drawings most of the
time.
When you are drawing you spend
more time in contact with the
surroundings, you become part of it.
Some sketches take longer than
others, its important to find a good
place to seat down.
The big heavy wooden doors of the
churches are very interesting.
" La Casa de los Pescados" it was the
headquarters for the group, we had
the lectures and parties in this house.
Today this house is gone.
It was a beautiful place, right on the
beach the town of Progreso, Yucatan.
In Sundays we went to the city of
Merida, Yucatan for the day, to enjoy
the action of the big city, and get away
from the rest of the group. To eat and
to hang out in the square.
Some faculty members always stay in
this house, right across the street from
La Casa de los Pescados.
